FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What time are your classes?

Please see our current class schedule for an overview of our class times. We are proud to offer a very flexible and extensive amount of training options. We have multiple classes Monday through Saturday; how often you train is dependant on the membership that you purchase.

How much does it cost to train with Kwest?

Go to this page for our membership costs

How do I get started?

Please see  this page for more info on how to get started. You have 2 options and both produce the same result. For safety reasons, new students need a certain amount of training before being introduced into the regular Level 1 class environment.

Do I need a partner for these classes?

NO, you definitely do not need a partner to join! It is true that the kickboxing portion of our class is mostly done in pairs; however most students sign up as individuals and you will have no trouble finding a suitable to partner when the time comes. Our instructors are always at the front of the class to help pair students up when needed. Kickboxing is a great way to meet new people and make new friends.

Can I sign up any time of the year?

Yes, you can join ANYTIME! You just need to email us or drop in to the club to get a start date! To recieve automatic notification about new courses you can also subscribe to our newsletter. The subscription area is located on the bottom right hand corner of our homepage.

Do I need equipment?

The only mandatory equipment you'll need for Boot Camp and Level 1 is a skipping rope. We have high quality ropes for sale (however, we do not require that you purchase your rope from Kwest Kickboxing).

Level 2 students are also required to have headgear, 16 or 18 ounce gloves, shin pads and a mouth guard for technical drills.

What do I wear?

Please wear comfortable workout clothing. Shorts, sweat pants, yoga pants, t-shirts and tank-tops are all fine. Please avoid profanity or other offensive content on your clothing. Out of respect for Kwest Kickboxing and our Kru and instructors, please avoid logos, names, etc of other martial arts schools in the city on your clothing.

How do I pay online?

Our online payments are done through PayPal. Student fees, equipment and clothing can all be purchased through our online store. You can also make payments by sending money directly from your PayPal account to kwestkickboxing@gmail.com

For full instructions, please see our online payment process page.

Do you have kids courses?

YES, Kwest Kickboxing does periodically hold Kids Courses. These courses are usually for ages 11 - 15.

If you are interested in kids courses, please email us. Inquiries let us gauge interest and determine when it is time to hold another Kids Course. You can also sign up on our homepage for our newsletter to receive announcements about new courses.

I have previous MuayThai / Martial Arts experience. What Level should I join?

We do require that all new students, regardless of past training, take at least one Personal Training session with one of our instructors. This allows us to gauge the abilities of the student and how they will fit into our club. All clubs do things a little differently and for safety reasons as well as the benefit of all students, it is important for us to make sure that new students are comfortable with our methods and techniques.

Where is Kwest Kickboxing located?

We run our club out of the River Osborne Community Centre at 101 Pembina Highway - right at Confusion Corner. See our map for reference.

Where can I park?

The Community Centre has a small parking lot to the south west of the building that has several spots available. This parking lot is accessed through the back alley off of Corydon. There is limited parking on the side street to the north east of the building and more parking on the streets nearby. The Burger King/Dollorama/etc parking lot across the street has a lot of available parking and no one has been ticketed or towed from there in the 4 years we have been at ROCC; however we cannot "guarentee" that.

DO NOT park in the staff parking area located in the "nook" on the north side of ROCC; in the fire lane of the side street north of ROCC; or in the Wild Planet or auto mechanic parking lots next door - there is a very good chance you will be ticketed and/or towed.

How does the registration process work?

We normally require a $30.00 deposit to hold a spot in our next Boot Camp. Boot Camps fill up very quickly and the deposit is non-refundable.

When you make your deposit you will be asked to fill in a short email questionnaire to ensure that you meet our insurance requirements. Once that is complete you are registered and ready to start the Boot Camp! You will be asked to sign a waiver on your first day of class.

Kwest Kickboxing is run in 3 - 4 month sessions, meaning you are never required to commit to a year-long membership. You will be given an opportunity every 3 - 4 months to re-register for another session. Each session you can choose which membership you would like for that session, giving you the most flexibility possible for your training.

How do I contact you?

You can contact us by emailing info@kwestkickboxing.com or by calling 995-KICK (5425)

Do you have lockers?

No, due to space restrictions, we do not at this time have personal lockers for students. All personal equipment and belongings should be brought into the gym rather than left in the change rooms so that they are safe.

Will there be any physical contact? Will I get hurt?

The Basic Training course and the Level 1 class do not involve any person-to-person contact. We make every effort to ensure our students' safety by stressing proper training before joining our Level 1 classes, and proper technique at all times. Our instructors are always available to help pair students up with appropriate, safe partners for them and to oversee classes as they go on.

Level 2 is an advanced class and read the descriptions of our Levels for more information on the differences between Level 1 and Level 2.

Please note that while we do make every effort to avoid injury of any kind and to create a safe and welcoming environment, this is a very physical sport and minor bumps and bruises can occur from time to time, as is common with most physical activities.

Will the instructors be yelling at, degrading or insulting me or forcing me to do more than I can?

NO, absolutely not. Our instructors are here to help you, not hurt you. We see people of all ability levels and do our very best to work with you where you are now. Your goals are important to us and we will push you to reach them, in a comfortable, friendly and encouraging way.

If I don't like kickboxing after my first class, can I get a refund?

NO. Our courses are very popular and we always have a waiting list for our Boot Camps. Once a course has started you are responsible for the seat that you paid for. Technique is extremely important in our classes for each student's safety. After the start date, we cannot "refill" a vacated spot without charging extra because those people will have missed important information that we will have to go back and cover.
